I have a nasty habit of saying I need a new pair of boots or a particular jacket, when what I mean is that I want them.
It's not as if I'm going to go barefoot or freeze to death this fall. A quick look at my overflowing closet confirms that I have more jackets, shoes, and bags than any one person can reasonably claim to need. I have, for example, at least three belts from last year that I never, ever wore. Why then, do I think I need more stuff?
Part of it is, as this piece in today's Styles suggests, an opportunity to express yourself, to bolster up your identity when the economy is trying to drag it down.
But part of it is just plain old retail therapy.
Since folks started whispering about recession, I've been cutting back my own spending - but I'm not sitting out fall shopping completely. It's sort of like the financial version of working smarter instead of harder. I want to make sure that my fashion dollar goes as far as it can.
I'd also like to have a smaller pile of unworn belts at the end of the season.

If you know someone around you who is being a little shady and you are getting uncomfortable around them, then maybe you might want to run a small background report on the person in question to make sure that they are ‘who they say they are’.
